Match 2 (R1) - 2023 First Championship
Controller Area Network (CAN) wiring is goes down, we are unable to move...
CAN is the controlling wires that run all 12 of our motors, as this is a series circuit, if you have a break anywhere, you lose control of all systems on the circuit.
This season teams had a lot of breakdowns! In this seasons game robots collide a bunch, & they collide at full speed! 2 robots weighing over a 100lbs a piece each going 15+ miles per hour, to make a 30+MPH head on collision, making for some serious impacts, & a lot of breakage for all teams this season! Teams learned to try & avoid collisions whenever possible.

Match 5 (R2) - 2023 First Championship
Teams 254 & 2056 are RANK #1 & #2 & these teams that have won more awards & championships of any teams around the world. They are teamed up against us, they are the favorites to win the championship, & they are playing against us. See how it goes...

Final 1 (REPLAY)- 2023 Green Country Regional
During the original game we got hit & broken. Also, the blue teams charge station (balance platform) got stuck, so they couldn't use it. Juges called for a replay of the match. Then, we weren't able to get our robot repaired in time, so we are not playing. Our alliance loses the match.

Our Robots Name with this years FRC Theme of "Charged Up" is SUPER CON-DUCK-TIVE
Here we just "mocked up" the intake & arms to see what they where going to look like.
Belly pan is beautiful, but who can see it? If people see it, we're having a bad match!!!
Largest single metal part we have ever used as a team. Ended up being 5lbs of T6160 aluminum with 144 octagonal holes in it! It was explained to the kiddos that triangles are stronger, but they wanted to have octagons, so...
![Picture](/uploads/6/0/3/6/60369087/img-3304_orig.jpg)
Started cutting even before the CAD was finished, one of the 1st parts, if not the 1st part was the belly pan, & it took a while to cut out! Largest single metal part we have ever used as a team.
![Picture](/uploads/6/0/3/6/60369087/img-3291_orig.jpg)
Yep, just a piece of wood, but the programming team could start working!
The decision to use a swerve drive was made quickly, & so the kiddos were able to begin assembling even while CAD team was still working on the design. In the end they had to take 1 inch out of it, but it allowed the programming team to start working.
A number of kiddos worked on a new battery cart/charging station, but Marquell Woolridge did 80-90% of the work…
Kiddos built a "new" robot cart. We recycled, bumpers from last year, a cart that's older than the kiddos, aluminum parts from previous years robots, & some black & purple acrylic spray paint.
A previous year kiddo designed this hand for his woodshop project. Mr. G took it put 1561 on it & printed it off in Purple ABS.
Kiddo CAD a new driver console, we cut it out, on CNC & Laser Cutter, & then Isaiah Brown put it together.

2022 RoboDucks Robot Build
CNC Router Cutting out the custom designed parts in T6160 Aluminum, made parts in 0.125" & about a dozen parts in 0.25.""Played a lot of Tetris" Aluminum was/is very hard to find this year!!! Didn't want to waste any.Pictured below is about 100 pieces, in the end several hundred custom parts were CNC cut, Laser Cut, & or 3D printed. |
Over 2 dozen kiddos joined our team this year!Kiddos broke into teams: CADD team, Programming Team, & Building Teams. Robot was designed in sections (Sub-Assemblies), different people worked on different sections, & then built in sections that were all riveted together. Kiddos then bolted together the Sub-Assemblies.Drive Train Prototyping / Coding team starting & testing the code.Climbing Step 1Climbing Step 2Climbing Step 3Climbing Step "4" steps X 2 = at the top bar! |

PCN/FT The RoboDucks 2020 Robot
Our First Robotics Kickoff party for 2020 season will be on Saturday January 4th at Francis Tuttle Portland Campus at 8:45 AM!
Speak with Mr. Gravitt about joining. Will need your parent to sign a form allowing you to participate. We are Going to Compete at OKC & at the Tulsa competitions this year! OKC competition is on March 11th - 13th & the Tulsa April 1st - 4th.
Below is the 2019 Season
First Robotics Team 1561 the RoboDucks
Introducing our robot "Gadget"
This is Gadget all tucked away, you must have all parts within the frame at the start of the match. Wearing the RED alliance bumpers, looks better in the red bumpers because the purple lettering shows up better.
In our pits, we have just taken Gadget out the bag, and the kiddo's are reinstalling the pickup arm.
Testing out our lifting mechanism before the match. We lift up on a huge 2"X19" pneumatic ram, it pushes the center two motorized drive wheels out, they hook onto the back two unmotorized omni wheels on the back of the robot, and the two front motorized omni wheels lift up with the frame of the robot.
Above: This is with the ball pickup arm out and the hatch claw extended. We keep the Pickup arm retracted/up most of the game. Keeps it out of our way, our teammates way, and reduces the chance of it getting hit and damaged during the match. We lift the cargo arm using two VEX motors geared 343:1, this gives us the strength to lift the arm, and holds the arm in whatever position we want. The rollers are powered by two VEX motors geared 10:1 to pick up and shoot the cargo balls out.
Below: This was our first test of our lifting mechanism. We received the best built robot award at the OKC Regional.
|
In our pits, we have just taken Gadget out the bag, and the Josh is reinstalling the hatch claw.
Our two back wheels are held in place by a car door latch, the door latch is released by a 1X1 pneumatic air ram, and then the wheels retract back up via a spring that was loaded by the 19" pneumatic air ram when the wheels were dropped down. Originally we were going to use another air ram to do this, but it made us too heavy.
This is our reverse claw, when closed we can hit the hatch panel off center by several inches and still pick up the hatch. It instantly releases and stays out of the way.
|
Our first qualification Round
Just looking at us we don't look too special, the fact that we can go go Gadget ourselves to the 3rd tier is not readily apparent. The announcer apparently hadn't seen us do our lift during practice, he's a little shocked!
2nd Qualification Round
We are ranked 1st!
3rd Qualification Round
We built "Gadget" strong, but didn't think about getting shaken and/or hit while up in the air!
4th Qualification Round
5th Qualification Round
6th Qualification Round
Quarterfinal #1
Quarterfinal #2
We played well, but winning wasn't in the cards for us this year. Next year we plan on going to at least two events if not more...
Francis Tuttle Engineering Academy First Robotics Team in the Spring of 2019
Mr. Gravitt and any of his students that want to participate will be joining/colaborating with our tech center Francis Tuttle(FT). We are joining their already established team 1561 the ROBODUCKS. The first kickoff meeting will be January 5, 2019 @ 9AM-2PM at the Francis Tuttle Portland Campus. Lunch will be provided, but extra snacks are welcome. We will be watching the kickoff video, going over the rules, and begin discussing strategy. The FT instructors visited us here at PCN, discussed the team, showed videos and pictures of previous years, and they brought one of last years robots for our kiddo's to check out and operate. For more information and/or to sign up scan the QR code below!
